Altered Book - Lesson 7

Hi all,

ha ha, was thinking of missing this lesson to be honest and was going to jump back in with lesson 8 (lol - still working on that one) but some inspiration hit me when I was cutting some pictures out of travel brochures to add to my collage box.

I went with the flow and had such fun doing this page, I hope you like it........

I have sprayed, inked and doodled to my hearts content and got very messy, what a blast!

Elizabeth over at Altered Book Lover asked us to concentrate on Line, Form, Shape, Space and Texture, I think I have covered them as follows -

Line - lots of them all over the page, particularly radiating off Liberty's crown, the skylines are of the places in America that I would most like to visit, particularly San Francisco and the Empire State Building, ooh and Liberty herself of course.
Form - hoping I have covered this by layering up pictures of the statue?
Shape - there are many shapes through the layout.
Space - I have left lots of space around the main focal point, but I couldn't help but doodle in it a bit!!
Texture - I think there is an implication of texture in the background where I have inked through some sequin waste?

Chuckle, there was a serendipitous moment too when I realised the scrap of dictionary page I had pasted on in the top left hand corner held the definition of a DOLLAR!! I just had to doodle round that some more tee hee.

Sewn signature notebook

Hi all, hope you are all enjoying this fantastic weather? Don't forget your sun-cream!!!

I had so much fun making this a few evenings ago that I decided to share it with you.
After reading many books on binding techniques I was suitably confused but the wonderful Sue Roddis' Handmade Decorative Books came to my rescue, Sue very clearly explains the technique I wanted to try and the pictures provided made it even easier to follow - Thank-you Sue.

I have used lightweight card for my pages along with very strong thread to sew the signatures.  The covers were made using a cereal box for the substrate which I then covered in some very pretty K&Co paper. I decided not to add a spine as I wanted to be able to see the stitching for future reference. I have added ribbon to kind of act like a spine and provide some support for the stitching, I then decided to add a closure for the book which was made using 2 Tim Holtz grungeboard pieces coloured using distress inks, magnets provide the closure underneath. I decided to add flowers to cover up the holes in the grungeboard as you could see the backs of the magnet through them lol.

Journal Page

Hello all,

what strange weather we are having for this time of year, my heads fuddled with it all now lol!
I thought it was time I shared something else that I've done other than my altered book pages ha ha.
Here is a recent journal page and one of my favourites to date........

Sorry for the blurry photo peeps!!
I have used a background spray made up myself from watercolour paint, spritzed again using some chalk mists. I then used some adirondack paint dabbers through some sequin waste and the gorgeous TANDO random circles mask. The Easter Island head images came from a travel brochure and lots of doodling was added to finish.

Altered Book Lover Lesson 6

Hi all, hope you are all well?

Here are my pages for lesson 6 of Elizabeth's fab workshop, if you fancy taking a peek at what we are all doing please visit Altered Book Lover.  I'm late on parade again but got there eventually ha ha!

I have used a variety of stamps from my stash, lots of chalk mists, distress inks, acrylics, decorative tape, magazine images, napkins, and some die-cut letters.
I am using this as a techniques book so I have also attached dictionary definitions where needed for easy reference later on.

DOMINANCE

The one coloured bird is dominant over the uncoloured ones.

RHYTHM

The use of the pattern stamp reflects rhythm.

CONTRAST

The change in directions and lines reflect contrast I hope?

MOVEMENT

The pointing hand and die-cut letters are supposed to reflect movement, as in the words rolling down the hill.   This didn't turn out as I saw it in my head ha ha but I think it just about covers it!!

REPETITION

Ha ha ha, I couldn't help myself here!! I tried all sorts of different layouts with the lips but I kept coming back to the one that looked like a face.  Hopefully this covers repetition by using a variety of lip images and lots of doodling round the border using the word repetition lol.
