Altered Book - Zipper pages

Helllooooooooo,

I hope everyone is having a wonderful and chilled out day of rest? Woohoo, we have sunshine again so all in my house are much more cheerful (and breathe!!).

The lovely Elizabeth over at Altered Book Lover set us quite a challenge for this lesson by asking us all to put a zip in our books. Once I got my head around the process I decided that I definitely wanted to have a go. Thanks to Elizabeth's very clear instructions and pictures it was not too bad to do, lots fiddly in places ha ha but also lots of fun. If you fancy having a go at a zipper page yourself please pop on over HERE.

Here is my offering............LOL, please accept my apologies for the pictures, I have run out of batteries strong enough to work my camera so I had to resort to using my scanner but you should get the gist of what I was trying to do..............

All the collage elements came from a free fishing catalogue that had popped through my door. The background was simply done by swiping some paint over the pages using an old membership card, I love the texture that has come from the wrinkles produced from gluing the pages together!

The zip has been decorated using some fishing tackle bought very cheaply from one of my local 'Aladdins Caves' ha ha. The lure hanging just below the zip is neon yellow which sadly didn't show through the scan!
The fishing rod and fish (hiding behind my zip, tee hee) are linked by some embroidery floss in substitute of a fishing line, you can see this poking out of fishy's mouth!!

Hope you like it ha ha, not what I would ordinarily have done to be honest but I had an idea and went with it, am really quite pleased with how its turned out now. Ha ha, still itching to fiddle with it some more but I think I would 'lose' the page and what I was trying to convey if I did.
What do you folks think??

Many Thanks for popping by and leaving a comment if you have the time, any and all feedback is always gratefully received.

Big hugs x x x x

Just popped by to get your blog address for my latest post and what do I find???? An absolutely superb zip page in your AB. I didn't even guess what would be behind the zip and was truely amazed as it was an inspired piece of work. The funny thing about it all for me is that I have set the theme of "fish" for next month's SWAP on my UKPC group (Shhhh don't tell anyone). Hope you manage to get linked up by then. Just thought you'll be able to look at all my 480+ scrapbook pages if you do - LOL. Love the fishing zip page - BJ

Oh Dawn, this is just PERFECT. Bleubeard gives it two paws up, too! I love the idea of using the free catalog. That is MY kind of decorating, rather than buying paper. This type of cheap or free materials is what I was hoping everyone would use the further we delved into our ABs.

Not only were your decorations perfect for the fish story, but I love your humor with this fish tale. I think the embroidery floss was a wise idea, because I don't believe the fish line would show up as well. I'm super, super impressed!

I think it is pretty cool just the way it is! I liked the use of floss as the fishing line & the lure makes a neat zipper pull!

I came back here to answer your question about the images on my windows page...I don't think you are rude at all! I got them out of travel brochures and tour company books!

Very cool zipper page - looking forward to your decorated edge treatment! I’m playing catch up with all the comments left while I was gone….it’s nice to know people continue to check in, but I feel overwhelmed to catch up with the reading and thanks. So, here’s a quick thanks…..
